Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Attracts large crowd!

The recent wildlife habitat demonstration day, which was organised by Posh Paddocks and Landmarc attracted a large number of key personnel from a variety of conservation and heritage organisations.

Area wardens and regional managers from the National Trust, Devon Wildlife Trust, Tamar Valley AONB and Cornwall County Council gathered at the demonstration site at The National Trusts ground at Cadsonbury near Callington on 24 September.

The day began with a brief talk from Joe Lawrence, the National Trusts Head Warden for Cotehele, who talked about the habitat management plan for Cadsonbury, and the work which Posh Paddocks has been able to help the Trust with, over the past 12 months on this site.

Whilst basking in the glorious September sunshine, attendees were then shown a wide variety of techniques which would be useful in managing different areas of ground from grassland to dense gorse. These demonstrations included: mowing of steep banks; flail cutting and collecting; creating fire breaks; forestry mulching of established gorse and mature trees and bracken control.

The day was well received having offered the opportunity for attendees to share their own experiences, catch up with colleagues and see specialist machinery in operation.

Following on from the success of the event, Posh Paddocks and Landmarc will be looking to organise similar demonstrations in the future.
