Posh Paddocks Out and About!
Posh Paddocks recently attended the small animals and equine open day at Cornwall Farmers in Tavistock.
The open day was well supported and provided a great opportunity for us to meet up with lots of friends and current clients as well as introducing ourselves to new landowners.
Hot topic of the day was ragwort and the best ways to get rid of this poisonous plant. Advice given was to pull the plant up by the roots, before it goes to seed. It should then be destroyed, ideally burned. You should always make sure you wear gloves when pulling the plant, as it can be poisonous to humans as well as animals. During the summer months is when ragwort seems most prevalent as the yellow flowers can be seen more easily. However, in terms of longer term maintenance, ideally it is best to spray the plant when it first starts growing and is still at the rosette stage.
We received several enquiries during the day covering many problems which horse and landowners need addressing. Common issues tended to be getting rid of docks, buttercup and thistles or reinstating grassland as well as fencing and muck heap removal.
Thanks to Cornwall Farmers for letting us exhibit at the open day and to all our clients, old and new, who visited the stand during the day.
