At last steep gorse and thorn covered land can be safely cleared

Posh Paddocks and Landmarc have joined forces to carryout a conservation maintenance contract for the National Trust on the north Cornish coast where gorse and thorn have started to dominate the grass and heather which was growing on the site.

The land was extremely steep so it was necessary to put in place some health and safety constraints which involved a winch wire to be attached to the Aebi tractor so that a votex forestry mulcher could be used to cut the vegetation. The end result was that islands of established vegetation now remain on the site with a network of corridors which cover the whole area enabling livestock to access all areas. It was satisfying to see that clearance work on the site undertaken by posh paddocks and Landmarc during last winter has created a grass and heather rich environment.

If you are a warden, reserves officer or farmer who requires similar clearance to be undertaken please contact Jon Weatherhead (07850 226141) or Marcus Evans (07970 256590).
